Everyone has a mental image of what God is like. Most of those images are far from loving -- many are quite scary.
GetToKnowGod.org is designed to remove the ugly varnish many put on God. Cast in the light of earthly fathers, Greek gods, and nightmares, God is none of the above. According to 1 John, He is light; He is love. These are the only two words in the Bible that specifically describe God.
Of course God has many characteristics, such as holiness, righteousness, jealousy, and justice. But we were created by Him in love, not in any of these other things. And we've been created for a purpose: for a loving relationship with Him!
This site will be developed to address God's character as described in the Bible. We will see how Jesus is the exact representation of His nature (Heb 1:3), and how, once we have seen Jesus, we have seen the Father.
While we're called on to fear and reverence God, the whole point of our being here is to love, and to be loved by Him. |
